New Home for the Next Generation
Keeping Property in the FamilyLearn what you need to know before starting your construction project.
Home Stays Within the Family
The Manoa community is close in proximity to Honolulu and Waikiki. A quiet, safe neighborhood with beautiful landscape and impressive homes, Manoa is like many of Oahu’s older communities; its residents are often generations deep. Many Manoa families value their properties and hand their land parcels from one generation to the next.
This property is no exception and was passed from aunt to nephew. The original home was built decades earlier and showed its age. Its new owner decided that it was time to rebuild the aging home.
The new residence features three bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs. The extra-large master bedroom captures the breathtaking views of Manoa’s lush valley. Over-sized, double-hung windows allow natural light to flood the room. The master also features a heart-stopping walk-in closet with beautiful built-in drawers.
Downstairs is designed for family and visitors to gather. It has an enormous living area, cozy deck, and a kitchen island that is perfect for eating and family game activities. The owners even had the foresight to add a “slipper closet” to the side of the main entry so their guests’ shoes will remain dry on the rainiest of days.
The new homeowners paid homage to their aunt by building a fully accessible suite next to the living area. This will allow her to still have a rest stop when traffic is snarled or if she decides she’d prefer to stay in town instead of driving home.
Graham Builders was the first firm in Hawaii to have a certified National Association of Home Builders Aging-in-Place specialist on staff. Over the years, Graham Builders has grown this number to three certified consultants who help homeowners make necessary mobility and safety changes to their residences.
